Feeding on Shed Skin - Leroy D Simon
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 78
Technique: 26 Impact: 26 Composition: 26
Tells a story. Good use of light. Background is nicely out of focus. The plant forms a nice frame around the subject. Good detail in the subject.

Just a little light reading - Joan C Dias
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 74
Technique: 21 Impact: 24 Composition: 29
Nice still life. Tells a story. A little more depth of field might help tell the story since reading is the image title and the books and glasses are not as sharp. A little more control of highlights and shadows would also be beneficial.

Tenuous grip - Bill H Down
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 72
Technique: 21 Impact: 26 Composition: 25
Tells a story. Subject is sharp and well positioned in frame. Cropping a little (leave room for subject to move) from right would eliminate some of the highlights that pull the eye away from the subject. Although the background is out of focus, it is still a little distracting. The eye is drawn to the specular highlights in the foliage, the area between the birds neck and snake as well as a merge with a background element between his neck and back.

Unspoken Love - Sarah Lankester
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 71
Technique: 24 Impact: 24 Composition: 23
Sweet moment. Hard light hurts the image but it is a condition over which we have no control because it would have spoiled the moment to introduce diffusers, etc. A darker exposure would have brought out the detail in the horses coat; also, dodging the shadows around the horses face to bring out detail around his eye.

Tradition - Adam L Berry
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 76
Technique: 25 Impact: 26 Composition: 25
Nice human interest story. The steam disguises the background detail which prevents it from being a distraction. Tonality is good but could benefit from a little more contrast.

Technique: 28 Impact: 31 Composition: 25
It tells a gut-wrenching story -- photojournalist style. Diagonal of the roof and the pavement markings serve as a leading lines. Including a person in the image looking at the damage might have added a focal point and resting place for the eye.

Good catch! - Thomas Finley
Judge: Nancy Lester Total Score: 71
Technique: 20 Impact: 24 Composition: 27
Definitely tells a story--bear is having fish for dinner! The subject needs to be little sharper. The subject is positioned well in the frame with room for the bear to move forward through the frame. Cropping a little closer from the top helps to bring more attention to the bear's face and eliminate some of the distracting boulders. Darker exposure would look more natural. A more shallow depth of field might separate the subject from the background.

Good image. The spider dominates the frame and is quite sharp. The spider reaches across the scene on a diagonal add energy. The geometric lines of the web provide a background that contributes in a positive way.

Nice diagonal created across the frame by the wings. The bird is nice and sharp. The feet tell a story, too! Could use a little more detail in the darkest shadow ares of the wings.
